DESCRIPTION

The mission of Victory Junction is to enrich the lives of children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses by providing life-changing camping experiences that are exciting, fun and empowering, in a safe and medically sound environment.

DUTIES

The Nursing Director of Victory Junction provides the means of fulfilling the mission statement, and our goal is to be a medical center of excellence for each of the conditions and illnesses we serve. This is accomplished by leadership that provides superior medical services to campers, families and staff when at Victory Junction. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time. ** Collaborate with medical director to coordinate and lead the Medical Department, including direct supervision of camper recruiters and medical executive assistant** Supervise all nursing staff, including ensuring proper medication administration and documentation and ensuring proper implementation of standing orders and skilled performance of procedures by nursing staff as appropriate including but not limited to intravenous access and medication/fluid administration; injections; central venous access and care; enteral feedings; urinary catheterization; ostomy maintenance; and tracheostomy care** Act as a health care resource for all staff and volunteers, including education of all camp personnel, providing required medical training ensuring all local, state, and federal requirements are adhered to and achieve the Camp's mission and goals** Coordinate and provide superior medical care for campers, families and staff, including acting as a health care resource for all staff and volunteers, responding to all on-camp medical emergencies, and providing care and referral for medical issues as appropriate. ** Ensure appropriate medical coverage is in place based upon the needs of campers and families, including the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of all nursing staff.** Ensure compliance and proper reporting to all appropriate local, state and federal agencies, including management of narcotic and restricted medications and ensure the medical facility meets and maintains compliance with all applicable regulations and standards of the State of North Carolina, the American Camping Association, the Hole In The Wall Association, and other relevant organizations including presence at criteria visits** Implement strategies to maximize hospital/medical use of VJGC facilities during non-camper times (medical conferences, medical family weekends, open houses, etc.)** Collaborate with partner groups in the development of camping programs for special populations** Creation and continuous updating of all medical policies and procedures including management of pandemic and/or new illnesses** Develop and maintain annual budget for medical services, including personnel, medications, supplies and equipment. Participate in maintaining relationships with organizations for procurement of in-kind donations.** Review research proposals for research occurring at Victory Junction or with Victory Junction campers. Coordinate Medical and Program research projects, approvals, oversight, evaluations, publications, logistics and research implementation, & University/College relationships** Provide initial intervention as needed (emergency stabilization only) for all full-time year-round staff work-related injuries and refer to appropriate center** Provide communication with campers' families and physicians as needed ** Collaborate with program staff to ensure program activities are medically appropriate and implemented safely, including collaboration in annual schedule development and the development of emergency action plans, including tornado, lost camper, fire, hurricane, and medical emergency** Ensure confidentiality of camper, family, and staff medical information and records** Update, maintain, and ensure the accuracy of camper, family, and staff medical information in the computerized database** Maintain medical supplies and equipment including quarterly inventories, seeking donations, placing orders, stocking, and maintaining supply contacts ** Conduct chart reviews and score campers to determine summer and family weekend eligibility and admission ** Assist in camper admissions, including the recruitment, referral, screening, and selection of campers** Collaborate with camp leadership regarding medical issues and serve as spokesperson regarding medical issues when medical director is unavailable** Develop and maintain relationships with members of the Medical Advisory Board, including Victory Junction partner hospitals and community organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Education/Experience: ** Masters in Nursing required** Current, unrestricted North Carolina license** Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), and Healthcare Provider BLS (Basic Life Support) certifications** Experience working with the pediatric and adolescent populations** Desire to work in a camp community ** Ability to work with a variety of health care professionals ** Supervisory experience preferred** Prior camp experience preferred** Public speaking experience preferred** APHON chemotherapy certification preferredLanguage Ability: ** Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of company;** Ability to communicate using written reports and business correspondence;** Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or employees of organization.Math Ability: ** Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and decimals.
