Responsible for the organization and maintenance of a simulated nursing laboratory for students to practice and acquire psychomotor skills, used in nursing. The position functions as a planner, developer, consultant and coordinator. In addition, facilitates student acquisition of technical nursing skills. This position collaborates with the nursing department members in performing essential duties to the achievement of the department goals.
Provides simulation lab instruction including demonstrations, laboratory sessions, testing, attendance, simulation lab discipline, safety and security. Assists students in acquiring selected nursing skills by demonstrating the appropriate methods. Oversees and instructs students during practice performance in the laboratory. Creates a learning environment that will enhance students’ ability to use conceptual thinking and problem solving skills. Develops and implements high quality learning and assessment simulations.
Develops new simulation experiences based on student and/or faculty identified needs and serves as a resource for faculty utilizing simulation in classroom/lab activities. Obtains and/or develops appropriate simulation scenarios for use with high fidelity mannequins which assist students in meeting course objectives at all levels. Coordinates scheduling of high fidelity simulation labs. Evaluates the effectiveness of simulations as educational and assessment tools. Coordinates preparation of simulators and other equipment/props for conducing simulation.
Works closely with departmental faculty to plan strategies that will increase the student(s) ability to meet clinical skill requirements. Maintains and updates course curricula to include simulation scenarios and training. Assists in developing new curricula that is supported by simulation activities. Prepares and utilizes lesson plans and coordinates congruency between the classroom and the simulation learning environments. Coordinates maintenance of patient simulators and lab equipment.
Facilitates simulation scenario and student participation with debriefing sessions. Trains simulation users in simulation activities, operation of patient simulators and their maintenance. Conducts student evaluations and advising related to simulation lab. Contributes toward professional growth through in-service workshops, cross-training and departmental faculty meetings.
Maintains the laboratory, orders supplies, keeps inventory, and orders various anatomical training aids and multimedia supplies including computer software and videotapes. Provides medical equipment and supplies needed for demonstration of clinical procedures. Maintains records of student attendance and skill performance in a college laboratory.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Master’s degree in Nursing required with current registered professional nursing license in the state of Illinois, supplemented by a minimum of two years’ experience in clinical nursing, preferably in a variety of health care settings. Previous teaching experience required and experience with high fidelity simulators preferred. A CPR Instruction certification preferred.
Proficiency in computer usage is required. Must possess supervisory skills, the ability to work effectively with a diverse student body and the ability to maintain good working relationships with staff. Must be self-directed, innovative and able to assess current operations in an effort to develop practical action programs to improve the functioning of the department.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required with the ability to interact effectively with students. Must be able to work well within a culturally diverse environment with the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
