Join a reputable, first rate child welfare agency serving at-risk youth and their families through residential, education, foster care and older adolescent programs. Reports to the Vice President of Support Services and performs all nursing functions. Receives medical supervision from the Medical Director. Supervises medical department. Responds to client medical emergencies during a regular workday as well as off hours. Administers first-aid and CPR. Use of effective training skills, and verbal and physical intervention skills (clients weighing a minimum of 50lbs.) The use of intervention skills requires frequent kneeling and return to standing position without assistance. Frequent use of computer. Accesses and maintains confidentiality of client records and information. Demonstrates flexibility to adjust tasks and schedule according to the medical department needs. Ability to use effective verbal and written communication with clients, agency staff, DCFS, and outside medical and social service providers. Provides direct services to students attending the on-site Therapeutic Day School.

  • Responsible for carrying out medical policy as set by Medical Director, The Agency, Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, Illinois Department of Public Health, and other governing bodies
  • Updates and trains agency staff on the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
  • Develop new policies and procedures with the approval of the Medical Director, Vice President, and administration
  • Responsible for submitting orders for medical supplies and equipment as needed
  • Responsible for submission of invoices/check requests for payment
  • Evaluate resident's need for medical attention, consulting with physician in regard to the individual medical problems of agency residents
  • Ensure that necessary medical appointments are made, inform residential units and the LHYS school as well as the staff responsible for transportation
  • Communicates with department staff on an ongoing basis daily
  • Performs medical treatments and monitor residents/students when necessary as directed by a physician or as required
  • Overall responsibility to ensure the ordering and provision of medications and ensure that accurate medication sheets with side effects are provided to unit staff and residential clients for all prescribed medications
  • Oversees the medication distribution program within the therapeutic day school program including obtaining consents from the students guardians for both prescription and over-the-counter medications per Illinois policy
  • Monitoring medication and effects of same with responsibility to notify the Medical Director as necessary
  • Provides medication on time during school hours to residents/students as prescribed
  • Expected to participate in the therapeutic day school students' Individual Education Plan meetings with nursing minutes are required
  • Provide and track the required nursing minutes in the Therapeutic Day School Student's Individual Education Plan
  • Write IEP goals with the assistance of the Educational Director
  • Notify the Vice President of Support Services of issues, concerns as needed
  • Ensure a separate medical file for each resident/student and ensure up to date medical entries into the Computer Program
  • Records and tracks medical appointments needed for residents as required by DCFS policy
  • On site visits to residential units to inventory first aid kits as well as function as liaison for medical department
  • Coordinate new client medical needs
  • Consult with team as to medical and psychiatric needs of residents and Intake referrals
  • Participation in health education groups/trainings for residents/students and staff
  • Facilitate medication review with the Medical Director and assure that required documentation is submitted
  • Ability to work effectively with clients and staff in a culturally diverse environment
  • May be required to safely transport residents to and from health care providers in agency vehicles
  • Act as liaison to an array of Agency staff, DCFS staff, and community health and social service providers
  • Participates in the development and implementation of continuous quality improvement activities
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement in all aspects of the position
  • Updating of required training and certifications as needed
  • Supervise all Health Services personnel
  • Provide and/or oversee a 24 hour 7 day a week nursing on-call system
  • Tracks Medical Outcomes and develops monthly statistical reports with the assistance of the Vice President of Support Services
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Registered Nurse with valid Illinois Nursing License
  • Certified to administer Medications
  • CPR certification required
  • Experience in Psychiatric, Pediatric, Gynecological nursing required
  • Experience with I.D.C.F.S. and Public Health Policies
  • Must have a valid Illinois drivers license with no suspensions in effect in the previous three (3) years of hire
  • No record of child abuse or neglect
