Performs preventative maintenance and repairs of nutrition services production , support and storage equipment; and performs related duties as required.
One year of experience repairing food processing equipment, major kitchen appliances or related types of equipment; or equivalent coursework from a machinist program or related field at a technical-vocational college.
Must possess a valid Minnesota Class D driver’s license or equivalent out of state driver’s license with a good driving record, without any serious moving violations, and no revocations or suspensions for the three years prior to the date of examination. Please note that a candidate’s driving record will be reviewed prior to an offer of employment and a safe driving record will be required to maintain employment per department policy and Minnesota’s Class D Driver’s License Manual.
Must have the physical ability to do all the functions and duties of the position, including regularly lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and to regularly kneel, crawl, stoop; and climb ladders.

A score of 75% or higher is required to be invited to interview for the position.

Performs skilled and technical work maintaining and repairing the district’s food processing, support and storage equipment at the nutrition services facilities.
Follows a preventative maintenance schedule for all pieces of equipment and machinery that affect the nutrition facility’s production capability including oiling, greasing, adjusting and replacing normal wear items such as belts, casters, bearings and springs.
Completes scheduled maintenance log to indicate that repairs have been completed and date of repair.
Sets-up, adjusts and calibrates equipment .
May work with new and other district nutrition servicestaff members on how to operate kitchen equipment and order parts up to a set dollar amount with prior authorization.
Drives a straight truck and other light duty vehicles and operates a variety of warehouse material handling equipment as assigned.
Provides appropriate feedback to district nutrition service supervisory staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge and ability to use the tools, materials and equipment used in maintaining andrepairing high speed food processing and production equipment.
Considerable knowledge of food safety and other standard safety procedures.
Considerable ability to work quickly performing preventative maintenance and replacing normal wear parts.
Considerable ability to interpret and follow technical manuals.
Working ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to complete required departmental paperwork.
Ability to analyze equipment/machinery breakdowns, stoppages and malfunctions and trouble shoot solutions.
Ability to regularly lift objects weighting up to fifty pounds without assistance.
Ability to regularly kneel, crawl, stoop and climb ladders.
Ability to work in a wide range of temperature environments.
Pay,Benefits, & Work Schedule
This is a 12 month position working 40 hours per week.
Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Machinists negotiated labor agreement. The labor agreement and salary schedule can be found at http://hr.spps.org/Labor_Agreements.html . The minimum rate of pay for this position is $19.27 per hour.
