The Operations Manager directs and coordinates activities of the Operations Department in order to efficiently use equipment, facilities and human resources. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Directs activities related to dispatching, routing and tracking transportation vehicles
Plans, organizes and manages the work of operations crew to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational requirements
Directs investigations to verify and resolve customer or shipper complaints
Serves as contact persons for all workers within assigned location
Implements schedule and policy changes
Collaborates with other managers and employees in order to formulate and implement policies, procedures, goals and objectives
Monitors operations to ensure that operations employees comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules and government regulations
Promotes safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings and meeting with individual staff members
Monitors spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with approved budgets and/or guidelines
Manages training of local crew
Ensures compliance with DOT regulations
Performs other related duties and projects as assigned
Requires work in situations that involve frequent changes of tasks using different techniques, procedures or degrees of attentiveness without loss of efficiency or composure.
Requires work in situations that involve interpersonal relationships in a job setting beyond giving and receiving work instructions.
Requires work in situations that involve solving problems, making evaluations or reaching conclusions based on subjective or objective criteria.
Requires talking with or signaling people to convey or exchange information. This includes giving assignments and/or directions to helpers or assistants.
Requires starting, stopping and controlling the actions of machines or equipment which must be guided, or for which a course must be steered.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Five years of relevant experience to include a minimum of two years managing others
Specific Skills and Knowledge:
Ability to speak and write English
Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to motivate teams to produce quality services within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects
Knowledge of budgeting and financial management
Proficient with Microsoft Office, database and web-based applications
Previous experience in the transportation industry preferred
