Description

:

Job Summary:
Under the supervision of an ophthalmologist, provides eye screening and diagnostic testing necessary for the evaluation of patient eye problems. Provides clerical/administrative support as needed.

1.

Prepares patients for examination by the physician by performing preliminary screening examinations for physician review including but not limited to the following:

measures visual acuity of patient

obtains patient's chief complaint, history and reviews systems

tests IOP, EOM's, CVF, checks for APD, reads glasses and dilated patients

performs simple color vision testing, Schirmer's tests

organizes orders, schedules diagnostic testing and tracks results

2.

Provides scheduling services for physicians to include appointments, surgical procedures, and testing

schedules patient appointments and registers them in the IDX Groupcast system as back-up to front desk

schedules patient surgeries ensuring that all necessary paperwork, insurance referrals and precertifications are obtained

acts as contact person for ER patients

3.

Provides administrative/clerical support as needed

ensures all correspondence to patients, referring physicians, insurance companies, etc. are copied, mailed and filed in a timely manner

creates forms for patient clinical needs

4.

Order clinical supplies as necessary with a watchful eye on par levels

5.

Maintain oversight of ophthalmology equipment

obtain quotes as required for capital purchases

work with Practice Coordinator/Administrative Director to ensure equipment repairs/maintenance is accomplished timely

6.

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

:

Training & Education:
High School diploma or equivalent preferred

Certified Ophthalmic Assistant required

Experience:
2 years experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant preferred
