Position Description

We are actively seeking to recruit an experienced, highly motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist, with extensive and diverse work experience, in the area of paediatric rehabilitation (ages 0-14 years), in particular in autism.

As a member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will join an acute care JCI accredited facility, providing specialty care to patients with a diagnosis of autism.

Minimum Requirements
You must hold a B.S. in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution (US standard or equivalent), plus the required clinical internship for professional registration.

You must possess a current license to practice Occupational Therapy.

You will have minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in areas of in/outpatient Occupational Therapy with paediatric patients.

It is essential that you have a sound knowledge base and strong clinical skills, which enable you to evaluate and provide hands on therapy (in Early Intervention) for paediatric patients.

You must be proficient at the core Occupational Therapy interventions with the paediatric population, (sensory integration, therapeutic exercises/play, ADL training, age appropriate functional activities, hand writing skills, age appropriate cognitive skills.

Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) training is preferred but not essential.

Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, but not essential.

You must be willing and able to work with multicultural and physically handicapped clients.

Duties & Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

You will manage a caseload of clients with complex needs, and be responsible for planning and implementing a variety of therapeutic interventions to the highest standards of best possible practice for assessment and treatment phases.

You will be central to the planning, influencing and provision of evidence-based therapeutic interventions in your assigned area, as well as providing clinical supervision to junior staff and students. You will also be required to demonstrate proper treatment procedures to ward personnel, and instruct patients and families in procedures to be continued at home.

You will provide intervention in accordance with physician’s orders, and established plan of care, and discuss progress with the physician/surgeon, recommending changes if necessary, and advise when patient is ready for discharge from the therapy program.

You will assess the effectiveness of treatment and modify treatment to achieve goals.

You will assess educational needs of the patient, family or caregiver, and provide education to meet those needs.

You will communicate with patient, family, caregivers and members of the multidisciplinary team to promote the maximum benefits of care and rehabilitation.

You will administer various treatment techniques, including customized intervention programs to improve a patient’s ability to perform daily activities, and adaptive equipment recommendations and usage training, if needed.

You will be required to keep abreast of new techniques or equipment, and recommend or implement them as applicable.

You will be required to perform other duties as directed, to support the overall effectiveness of the department. These duties may include:
• Participation in outreach activities, including health exhibitions, surveys, presentations and lectures.
• Contribution to the development of new patient educational materials, such as patient instructions and exercise handouts.
• Contribution to the development of the Rehabilitation Unit evidence based clinical protocols and patient assessment forms.
• Mentoring interns and students.
• Participation as needed with ongoing training of the Rehab Unit assistants.
• Providing patient reports at the request of the unit supervisor.
