The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this authority, any U.S. citizen may apply.

Duties listed are at the full performance level.

Edit material for grammar, capitalization, spelling, punctuation, style, arrangement, and conformance to procedural requirements. Provide general clerical support to the office staff. Determine supplies needed for the office staff. Maintain control log and files for all requisitions, inputting information into an automated database. Plan and implements the new automation and production of work products independently. Use word processing software and related hardware equipment to produce a variety of correspondence, reports, and office forms and other written material. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for this position. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the appropriate experience requirements.

GS-4: One year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work which provided the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position being filled; associate's degree or two years of successfully completed education above high school; and/or combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. Examples of qualifying experience are: performed office work such as answering telephone calls, filing, typing, checking e-mails, opening mail, routing mail, making copies and scheduling meetings.

GS-5: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level; bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school; and/or combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester hours} and experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. Examples of specialized experience are: Performed general clerical support such as greeting visitors, maintaining files, and typing letters; assisting in the analysis of incoming routine and controlled correspondence, including mail, cables, faxes, and documents; reviewed sections of agency or organizational directives and procedures to perform routine tasks such as correspondence work, filing and processing mail.

Proficiency Requirement - In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for this position must show possession of the following skill.

40 words per minute typing speed.

Applicants may meet this requirement by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test.

You will be evaluated based on the category rating procedure as defined in the USDA Demonstration Project Plan. Applicants who meet the basic minimum qualification requirements established for the position will be placed in the Eligible category. Eligible applicants will be further evaluated against criteria for placement in the Quality category. This evaluation is based on the level of your experience, education, and/or training as determined by your responses to the Occupational Questionnaire. Applicants with veterans’ preference are listed ahead of applicants who do not have veterans’ preference within each category.
