About the Position:
These positions are being filled under the Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) at organizations serviced by Team Redstone CPAC. These are temporary positions not to exceed 9/30/12 or not to exceed 1 year. The Not to Exceed (NTE) date will be determined by organizational assignment. Appointment may be extended at management's discretion.
For STEP positions at US Army Research, Development, and Engineering Command (RDECOM), the organization is a Demonstration Laboratory, and positions are in paybands. Paybands for DE-1 is equivalent to GS-1 through GS-4.
Who May Apply:
Students who are, or will be 16 years of age by June 17, 2012, who are currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution pursuing any of the following educational programs: (a) High School Diploma or GED; (b) Vo/Tech Cert; (c) Associate; (d) Bachelor; or (e) Graduate Degree.
This position requires a qualified typist. Must type 40 words per minute.
Perform a variety of clerical assignments in support of the office.
Receive incoming telephone calls and personal inquiries.
Type clearly identified information such as names, addresses, etc., on forms.
Type labels, folders, tabs, etc., for use in files.
Perform more difficult typing duties using automated equipment to improve typing and office automation skills.
Operate microcomputer or computer terminal to prepare, statistical tables, manuals, and travel orders.
Use computer software to prepare spreadsheets, charts, graphs, etc.
Prepare correspondence, memoranda, and/or reports in draft and final form.
Require accuracy in spelling and grammar.
To qualify, applicants must possess:
GS-01: No prior experience.
GS-02: Three months of general experience, or a high school graduate or equivalent, or a combination of experience and education.
GS-03: Six months of general experience, or high school graduate plus 1 year of higher education, or a combination of experience and education.
GS-04: One year of general experience equivalent to the next lower grade, or 2 years of higher education above high school, or a combination of experience and education.
General experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
