HSPHD's Public Health and Clinical Services division is seeking to fill one part-time (32 hours/week) Office Specialist I (Somali Bilingual) vacancy. The person hired to this position will provide customer service using Somali and English bilingual skills; to answer phones, manage appointments for the clientele, and other related clerical tasks.

The person hired to this position will work at various WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) site clinics located within Hennepin County.

HSPHD is a results only work environment (ROWE) where each job has concrete goals and expected results; individual employees are responsible for managing his/her work, and performance is measured by results. Results require staff to primarily work Monday through Friday during normal business hours.

The primary duties and responsibilities of this position include: Use Somali and English bilingual skills to answer phones; direct phones accordingly; converse with and correspond with WIC clients.
Schedule client appointments.
Prepare and maintain client records.
Perform basic computer operations using Microsoft Word and Excel; enter data into computerized databases.
File and retrieve files.
Provide coverage at WIC reception desks located in multiple clinics. Best Qualified Candidates will have: One of the following: One or more years of office clerical experience. One or more years of related post-high school education. An approved combination of education and experience. Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel to various WIC sites throughout Hennepin County to provide coverage for the reception desks.
Ability to communicate fluently in Somali and English, both verbally and in writing.
Knowledge of and experience with Somali-speaking cultures.
Experience: Experience using computer systems, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Answering telephones and directing calls; scheduling appointments.
Working at a reception desk.
Working with health/medical records.
Working with HuBERT software. Ability to demonstrate the employee competencies . Invitations to interview will be based on an assessment of education and experience. A background check will be conducted post-interview. Successful candidates must pass a language assessment to qualify for bilingual duties and pay.
