Interactive Data is looking for an OpenVMS Systems Administrator supporting OpenVMS in a production critical IT environment. Expertise required includes custom system installations; configuration, administration and monitoring of servers and storage devices, experience running OpenVMS servers in a clustered configuration, must be able to work independently regarding technology solution research and design.


Provide high quality day-to-day support for OpenVMS and respond to automated alerts, in keeping with the goal to support business requirements and deliver a highly reliable, performance-optimized production environment.

Work directly with OpenVMS and Linux system support teams in the US and Europe in support of the OpenVMS and Linux systems located in the Boxborough data center.

Implement key automation tools for streamlining workflow and systems management.

Implement the standard system tools and procedures for meeting the needs of high availability, disaster recovery, backup, efficiency, reliability, and security using best-of-breed software and hardware.

Develop/maintain procedures to comply with IT, Sarbanes-Oxley, SAS 70, and ITIL best practices.

Maintain documentation for system configurations and procedures.

Work collaboratively with network staff and developers on projects and problem resolution.

Work collaboratively with development, QA and other administrators to develop and implement improved deployment practices.

Monitor the release of patches and updates, evaluate the importance to our environment, and work with users to schedule application of patches, software updates and hardware upgrades.

Work with Production Operation to follow established change and incident tracking procedures

Work with the Business Continuity team to refine and test disaster recovery systems and procedures.

Work with hardware and software vendors to resolve and find root cause of system outages and other problems.

Working knowledge of Linux,

Take part in 7x24 on-call rotation for support of production systems

Required Experience:

The key criteria for the position is broad experience as an OpenVMS systems administrator in a large scale environment.

Good written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to learn quickly and be proactive.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Be flexible, accountable and able to work in a small specialized team.

Required Experience

At least 3 years OpenVMS experience with :
OpenVMS system management. OpenVMS Clusters, Alpha and Blade architectures

HP EVA disk arrays and storage replication products

Networking and SAN technologies

CA Watchdog and Scheduling software

Some experience of the following preferred:


CSWS (Apache Server).

MQ Messaging.

TSM Backup software.

Redhat Linux.

Scheduling and carrying out necessary software upgrades and patches.

Providing colleagues and users with the appropriate support and advice.
