Position: OPERATIONS ASSOCIATE
About the Organization
Breakthrough New York is a tuition-free afterschool and summer academic enrichment program for motivated, underserved middle school students. Our rising 7 th and 8 th graders are taught exclusively by high school and college students in our unique students-teaching-students model that promotes high expectations and academic achievement. Our mission is to increase educational opportunities for underserved students and to inspire older students to pursue careers in education.
Duties of the Position
The Operations Associate is highly organized, creative, and flexible. The ideal candidate is a team player and possesses a sense of urgency and willingness to jump in with both feet. This person is an excellent communicator (oral/written) and listener, with meticulous follow-through, and remains calm under pressure.
The Operations Associate will work collaboratively across departments (administrative, development, and program) to build and maintain a strong infrastructure to a growing organization. The Operations Associate will report to the Director of Operations.
Administration and Operations
Implement systems and routines, including written materials or forms, as requested
Help all departments with administrative tasks and logistics as requested
Assist in Human Resources: benefits management, communication with payroll company
Assist in general administrative tasks such as answering phones, mailings, photocopying, filing, and maintaining/ordering supplies
Provide support for Executive Director
Conduct other duties as assigned
Notify Board and Committees of upcoming meetings
Coordinate logistics for all board and committee meetings
Assemble and mail board meeting materials for board meeting, coordinate logistics for meetings
Development and Communications
Record donations into Raiser’s Edge, produce acknowledgement letters and reports
Design, maintain and assemble media and PR packets
Track and respond in a timely manner to grant related activities and requests
Participate in the management of the organization’s website
Assist as needed in all Development and Communications external events
Conduct prospect research
Manage social media accounts and communications
Qualities and Skills
Excellent communication, networking, and editing/writing skills
Effective organization skills, attention to detail, action and deadline-oriented approach
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications required
Familiarity with Raisers Edge or similar software preferred
High level of comfort with technology and ability to learn quickly
High level of discretion involving financial and personnel matters
Occasional evening and weekend hours required
This full-time position is compensated based upon education and work experience, including a full package of benefits.
Bachelor’s degree required, demonstrating strong academic achievement
At least 3-5 years of professional work experience required
