The City of Champaign is accepting applications for an Operations Manager in the Public Works Department. The employee in this position will manage the work of the Operations Division including in-house maintenance of City infrastructure systems, such as sewers, sidewalks, pavements, trees, rights-of-way, City facilities, traffic signals, streetlights, signs, and pavement markings; manage City contracts for various services; and develop and implement infrastructure system master plans. The work involves planning, managing, and monitoring work of others to achieve established goals. The employee will be a member of the Public Works Department management team and will assist the Director in planning projects, setting goals, evaluating work and effectiveness, and communicating with City Council, staff, and citizens.
The position requires experience in a management level position in a government, construction, industrial, or manufacturing environment. A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction technology, public administration, management, or a related field is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for a degree. An advanced degree in business or public administration is preferred.
Excellent communication skills and problem solving ability are required. Experience managing the work of union employees, preparing budgets and managing expenditures, writing specifications and requirements for maintenance contracts, and using computer systems to manage and monitor work, are preferred.
Additionally, candidates must possess a valid driver's license issued by the State of Illinois before beginning work and have a good driving record.
The starting salary will be between $74,236 and $84,462, depending on qualifications, with generous benefits. Applications must be received online no later than Sunday, March 17th, 2013.
