        Basic Function

        The Operations Manager in conjunction with the Plant Manager, ascertains the objectives necessary to meet production, quality and plant safety. Constantly monitors processes to assure the objectives are met and that timetables are kept. Works with support personnel to assure that materials, quality, accounting, and personnel needs will be met in order to avoid interruption of production. Regularly advises the Plant Manager on progress towards objectives and of problems or potential problems in meeting established goals.

        Specific Duties & Responsibilities

        Through the Production Supervisors, the Operations Manager evaluates production requirements and determines production schedules. Determines engineering, materials, and personnel needs necessary to meet those schedules and communicates them to the responsible managers. Follows work-in-process to assure work is proceeding satisfactorily. Motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.

        Manages through direct reports all day-to-day aspects of the daily operation of the plant, its equipment, engineering requirements and its distribution systems; ensures compliance with provincial and federal laws, policies, and regulations, and adherence to quality assurance programs and safety standards.

        Coordinates operations with Production, Materials and Technical Managers, engineers and senior management to ensure adequate, reliable, and economic plant production and service to the customer.

        Develops and/or assists in the development of day-to-day working policies, procedures, and shift rotation plans to ensure efficient and safe operation of the facility; ensures that shift work is performed according to policy and procedure, including assigned collateral duties.

        Participates in the development, implementation, and administration of annual capital, operating, and maintenance plans and budgets.

        Verifies and approves invoices for payment in accordance with plant/company procedures.

        Ensure compliance to Environmental Health &Safety policy.

        Studies, institutes and maintains efficient and safe work practice procedures and facilities. Keeps abreast of safety requirements and new developments in order to maintain an injury free, highly efficient plant operation.

        Improves the abilities, skills and knowledge of production personnel through appropriate instruction and training.

        Assures strict compliance with all quality control standards by maintaining a current and complete acquaintance with quality standards consistent with the company

        's reputation as a "Quality Producer." Analyzes production to determine where improvements may be made which will contribute to plant profitability.

        Education and Experience

        Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent.

        Preferred 8 – 10 years automotive management experience in assembly and manufacturing. Proven ability to apply sound engineering principles to critical projects such as new product launches as well as daily activities. Experience in overseeing engineering and operations issues and personnel involved in production and specific projects is essential.
