Company Overview:La Crosse Forage & Turf Seed is engaged in the production, marketing and wholesale distribution of field seeds, turf seeds, and other specialty seed products encompassing nearly 3,400 SKUs. Field seeds include alfalfa, clovers, hay and pasture mixes, and various forage grasses. Turf seeds include Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, and various turf seed mixtures. The Company also markets, small grains, inoculants, wildlife food plot mixtures, wildflowers, native grasses, erosion control products, turfgrass fertilizers and certain other landscape supply items.

Products are marketed through an extensive dealer network and directly to seed companies in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. The Company’s dealer network consists primarily of agricultural cooperatives, independent retail stores, plus a small number of farmer-dealers.The Company’s headquarters and primary distribution facility is located in La Crosse, WI. It has five other strategically located distribution centers in Des Moines, IA, Ellwood, IN, Lansing, MI, Madison, WI, and Sioux Falls, SD. Description: The Operations Manager will be responsible for the overall operational performance of his or her respective La Crosse Forage & Turf Seed Division.

Job Summary: The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing a wide variety of customer service, logistical, warehousing, and production activities. People management responsibilities include hiring and training, planning and assigning daily work, conducting performance appraisals as requested, addressing performance issues, and resolving problems. Performance will be measured on ability to fulfill customer orders, expense management, inventory control, and completeness of data processing.Reports to: Chief Operating OfficerEssential Duties and Responsibilities:Ensure Division is Exceeding Customer ExpectationsApplicable activities to manage include:Order fulfillmentTimely communication/information requestsWalk-in customer service (wholesale & retail-where applicable)Invoicing within 24hrsEnsure order accuracy and the quality of product shippedCoordinate Divisional Logistical NeedsSchedule and ensure customer shipment ; managed activities include:Routing permanent/temporary driversResource additional drivers and logistical assets as required by seasonal businessUtilize Third-Party Logistics Vendors as neededManage Inventory and Warehouse ActivitiesWith assistance from warehouse management, managed activities could include:Set weekly production schedules to meet inventory needs forecast by scheduling and assigning personnel; accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problemsMaintain a rolling 12 month Inventory needs forecastImplement, monitor company safety procedures; suggesting improvementsResponsible for the timeliness, accuracy and reporting of all warehouse related activities (warehouse chastity)Overall Divisional PerformanceAccomplish division results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees;Measure and report the effectiveness of the department activities.Continuously Improve all aspects of divisional operations to improve quality of service, efficiency of department and work crew and equipment performanceCreate and revise systems and procedures by analyzing operating practices, record-keeping systems, forms of control, and budgetary and personnel requirements; implementing changeProvide safe and clean work environment for employeesCreates a team-centric work environment by goal setting, frequent communication and feedback using rewards to reinforce positive contributionsMonitors and controls divisional expenses against budget, explaining variances Qualifications: MinimumHigh school degree3 years of relevant agricultural or turf experience1 year of previous supervisory/people management experienceCompetence with Microsoft Office or similar business software suitePreferredFamiliarity with Microsoft Dynamics NAV ERP SystemBS/BA in a relevant fieldWork experience in a seed related industrySkills: High level of integrity; trustworthyAbility to manage multiple deliverablesEffective people and change managementIntermediate analytical skillsEffective communicationResults orientationTo apply online, click APPLY TO THIS POSITION below.
