DUTIES 1. Work with the Boiler team to safely operate, maintain and repair: a. High pressure boilers and associated equipment b. Air compressors and associated equipment c. Steam systems for Boiler House and main Plant d. Refrigeration systems for Ammonia Plant and main Plant e. Water systems for Boiler House, ammonia Plant and main Plant f. Auxiliary equipment such as feed water pumps g. Emergency generator, well pump, and diesel fire pump. 2. Takes test samples and controls addition of chemicals to water systems. 3. Maintains proper water level and required steam pressure and supplies steam to meet plant load requirements. 4. Responsible for routine maintenance of pumps, valves, lines, and other utility equipment. 5. Monitors fire annunciation panel and computer monitor readouts of boilerhouse and refrigeration building equipment. 6. Maintain equipment and building cleanliness 7. Monitors and maintains all needed supplies and parts for safe and efficient operation of boilerhouse and auxiliary equipment. 8. Monitors level of fuel oil tanks, condition of containment dyke and sump. 9. Performs all record keeping duties, including data logging and filing, of boilerhouse equipment, maintenance procedures, safety related functions and other miscellaneous events. 10. Monitors severe weather. Contacts Security when severe weather is in area. 11. Follow Burlington Factory safety & environmental objectives & targets. Follow the plant safety rules. Report unsafe conditions immediately. Report incidents immediately or by the end of the shift. Maintain compliance with regulations, and refer to the Safety & Environmental Management System(s) on all related procedures and programs. 12. Perform Incident Site Commander duties 13. Complete annual skills training for position. Complete all Safety and Hazmat training annually. 14. Any other tasks as directed by management PRINCIPLE FUNCTION The safe and efficient operation of boilerhouse and refrigeration equipment. To supply steam, compressed air, soft water, and refrigeration in the needed quantities, to the plant manufacturing processes. RELATED REQUISITES RESPONSIBILITY (Accountability for the equipment with which the employee works or has control over, as well as the need for observation of the process/product to minimize the product loss). 1. Responsible for operating and maintaining all equipment associated with generating steam. 2. Responsible for operating and maintaining all equipment associated with refrigeration of chilled water and chilled glycol cooling systems. 3. Responsible for operating and maintaining all equipment associated with the refrigeration systems for entire plant . 4. Responsible for operating and maintaining all equipment associated with the manufacture of compressed air. 5. Responsible for operating and maintaining all equipment associated with the processing of soft water. 6. Samples, monitors, and adjusts chemical concentrations in water treatment systems. 7. Responsible for operating and maintaining all auxiliary equipment in boiler house, refrigeration building, pump house, and fire diesel house. 8. Monitors and maintains all safe operating parameters of high pressure vessels. 9. Maintain equipment and building cleanliness 10. Any other tasks as directed by management WORKING CONDITIONS (Temperature extremes, climate, noise factors, air contaminants, chemicals used, physical hazards, and working above and below ground level). 1.Summer temperatures may be above 100 degrees. 2.Winter temperatures may be below 0 degrees. 3.Floors and outdoor access area's can be wet and slippery. 4.Boilerhouse, pump house, diesel pump room, and refrigeration building are severe noise hazard area's. Hearing protection is required. 5.Personnel protection equipment such as, but not limited to, safety glasses, eye goggles, full face shield, rubber gloves, rubber apron, and respirator may be required for handling of chemicals. 6.Physical hazards are present during required maintenance work and may include, but are not limited to, ladder climbing, use of power and hand tools, temperature extremes, confined space entries, cutting, grinding, welding, dust, wet environments, and lifting. EFFORT(Type and amount of lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, bending, walking, climbing, visual acuity, and hearing required to satisfactorily perform the job). 1.Daily cleaning requires mopping, bending, squatting, and stair climbing. 2.Vision and hearing required to monitor audio and visual alarms. 3.Maintenance and repairs require the use of hand tools, bending lifting, squatting, heavy lifting of objects between 50 - 100 lbs., and climbing. 4.Monitoring and adjusting equipment requires walking, stair climbing, bending, squatting, and vision. 5.Emergency situations require walking, lifting, climbing, bending, squatting, vision, hearing, and may require long periods of standing and frenzied activity.
SKILL (Job knowledge needed, amount of training needed to perform the job without assistance, dexterity needed and level of supervision given / needed.). 1. ASOPE 2nd Class Power Plant Operating Engineer License or equivalent. 2. Understanding and working knowledge of steam and gas/oil fired high pressure boilers. Training provided. 3. Understanding and working knowledge of refrigeration principles and equipment. Training provided. 4. Understanding and working knowledge of air compressors, air dryers, soft water systems, cooling towers, pumps, valves, and auxiliary boilerhouse and refrigeration equipment. Training provided. 5. Understanding and working knowledge of water testing principles. Training provided. 6. Understanding and working knowledge of computers and computerized equipment. 7. Ability to work with a minimum of supervision. 8. Ability to work in a team environment. 9. Ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems. 10. Coordination and dexterity needed to use power tools and hand tools. 11. Coordination and dexterity needed to climb fixed and portable ladders. 12. Participation in IRC classes and RETA Ammonia Operator certification program 13. Be functional in AMM system to search for work orders, enter time and create own work orders. 14. Complete annual skills training for position. 15. Complete all Safety and Hazmat training annually.
