Plant Operator Trainees at Chevron's Oak Point Plant handle all aspects of our daily operation with a clear focus on safety, protecting the environment, reliability and efficiency. Operators are expected to learn a variety of jobs to support our operation.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
Ensure all safe work practices are followed at all times; Assume responsibility for personal safety and the safety of others
Manual operations that include connecting and disconnecting cargo hoses and load arms on railcars, tank trucks, ships and barges
Manual dumping of chemicals in 100 pound bags
Operation of manual and automatic valves, meters, pumps and transfer systems to handle product movement between tanks and process units.
Operation of batch and continuous process units utilizing a wide range of control systems and equipment that includes centrifuges, solids transfer systems, refrigeration units, mixers, heat exchangers, pumps, vacuum systems and filters
Operation of our utility systems that include power generation by gas fired turbines, boilers, air compressors, hot oil units, incinerator furnaces, firewater and cooling water systems, boiler feedwater treatment and effluent water treatment systems.
Operators prepare equipment for maintenance activities and handle minor maintenance of their facilities.
Perform housekeeping duties, to maintain a clean work environment, and clean equipment such as filters, tanks,exchangers and other various equipment.
Demonstrates knowledge of the assigned processing unit and has the ability to relate it to others.
Displays a comprehensive understanding of refinery policies and procedures
Able to remove roadblocks and consider alternative approaches to arrive at workable solutions.
Looks for opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce costs
Is able to build rapport and establish positive working relationships both internally and externally to Chevron. Efficiently and effectively takes actions to meet customer needs. Responds and follows up on requests quickly and efficiently. Uses feedback to monitor and address customer concerns.
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Must have two years of manufacturing work experience. Military experience is counted as work experience.
Valid Driver's License
Must be able to work a rotating 12-hour shift, overtime as required and on-call.
Ability to effectively utilize computer tools
Demonstrates ability to be a problem solver. Able to grasp complex issues and apply good problem solving skills to develop recommendations/solutions
Must be able to work independently, take initiative and act on opportunities. Ability to plan and organize own work. Ability to multi-task with changing priorities and assignments.

Chevron's tests are focused on industrial aptitudes. However ASVAB test preparation guides may be able to assist in preparation for these tests. Candidates should focus on mechanical aptitude, reading comprehension, understanding information in tables and graphs, and understanding industrial math.
Associates/Technical Degree from a Process Technology Program
Relocation will not be considered within Chevron parameters.
