Position Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Assist unloading soda ash from Railroad hopper cars to Ships. Perform housekeeping functions and maintenance to the areas and equipment as directed by supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Moves levers or pushes buttons to start and stop conveyor equipment as directed by the Ship loader and shift foreman
  • Opens rail car dump hoppers
  • Unplugs hoppers, feeders, belts, etc., when required
  • Notifies supervisor of equipment malfunction
  • Lubricates equipment and bearings and performs preventive maintenance on conveyors and other equipment
  • Perform housekeeping duties to the equipment and areas that have accumulated soda ash, during vessel activity, using water, air and hand tools. At times will use bob cat, man lift, fork lift, loader to assist in performing job functions
  • Assist in performing maintenance on conveying systems, belt splice, roller change out, bearing replacement, etc
  • Assist hoisting crane operators in lifting equipment by rigging and giving hand signals
  • Shovels materials onto conveyors, wheel barrows, loading equipment, etc
  • Cleans and performs housekeeping duties in different KMP areas and locations
  • Assist at other KMP locations as directed by supervision
  • Safety training kept current to all KMP locations that require training
  • Climb ladders and work at high elevations, using the proper safety equipment
  • As directed performs all activities of coworkers
Position Requirements

EDUCATION:
  • High School Graduate or equivalent
EXPEREINCE/SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:
  • Experience with rail yard movement
  • Basic computer skills (knowledge of MS Office, various operating systems, and other company software)
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers
  • Willingness to use personal and/or company vehicle in the course of employment
  • Must pass and complete Safety training/certification as required by customers to work in their facilities and as required by Kinder Morgan at all locations
  • Must obtain and/or meet all requirements to enter foreign trade zones; such as background checks by both the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security, i.e. obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)
  • Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed

  • Must be willing to work shift and/or overtime hours during the week including after dark hours, and/or weekends, and holidays as dictated by operations with little or no notice
  • In order to appropriately perform essential duties of this job, regular work attendance is required
PHYSICAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Regularly exposed to outside in adverse weather conditions and also but not limited to: heights in excess of 5 feet, moving mechanical parts, moving on track rail equipment, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, uneven terrain and high noise level in the work environment
  • Climb ladders and work at high elevations, using the proper safety equipment
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, etc. for extended periods of time
  • Regularly lift and/or move a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions, regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (occasional)
  • Depending upon the location and workload, travel will be required and is anticipated
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Some mechanical and/or conveyor handling system experience
