OCSD is currently looking to fill the role of an Operator-in-Training.
Under general supervision, the Operator-In-Training performs a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant on an assigned shift; operates, monitors and maintains plant equipment including engines, motors, boilers, compressors and pumps to control unit processes; monitors and controls wastewater flow; performs adjustments and repairs to plant equipment; collects samples for laboratory testing; and performs minor maintenance such as flushing sludge lines to digesters, adding oil, and cleaning drains. This person will learn, and subsequently monitor process units. Other duties will include record maintenance, assisting with chemical deliveries, steaming process lines, supporting maintenance and construction activities, and general housekeeping.
This position requires a High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution, supplemented by specialized training in wastewater treatment plant operations or a related field. Some experience in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant performing basic operation and control of plant operation equipment and unit processes is desirable. A valid California class “C” driver’s license is required. The incumbent in this position is required to obtain a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator-In-Training certificate within one month; and a valid Grade I California Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate within two years from date of employment. This position requires the ability to use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing. Good communication skills are desired.
