This position is located in Alachua, Florida at the Center of Excellence for Regenerative Health Biotechnology (Florida Biologix). This position is NOT on UF’s Gainesville campus.
An OPS position is available for a technician to provide assistance in the Quality Control department at Florida Biologix. The incumbent will perform a variety of genetic, molecular and cell culture based assays. Assays include (but are not limited to) gel electrophoresis, qPCR, Western blot, quantitative protein assays (i.e., Lowry, BCA , etc.), ELISAs; TCID50, as well as additional assays as required for the testing of client material or to support other departments within Florida Biologix. The successful candidate will:
Carry out laboratory work focusing on technical aspects of specific projects in support of senior scientists and supervisors.
Be responsible for assay preparation, execution, and analysis. Maintain complete and accurate records of all work performed.
Maintain inventory of chemicals, prepare solutions and reagents, order laboratory supplies and actively participate in laboratory organization and logistics.
Use computer programs such as Outlook, Excel, Word, and Access to record, tabulate, and maintain data and procedures in the lab. Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm; Mandatory overtime in the evening and on weekends and/or holidays when needed. Candidate must be able to maintain a flexible work schedule when necessary.
A high school diploma and four years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Health Assessment Required
A bachelor’s degree (Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry or related field) and 2 years of laboratory work experience is highly preferred, but not required. Hands-on experience with some of the techniques listed above is required however the successful candidate will receive training on additional skills. Careful record-keeping and good organizational skills are essential. Individual must be quick to learn technical and procedural steps related to each assay. Accuracy and precision is a must. Candidate must be willing to follow directions from the supervisor. Successful candidate must have the ability to read, write legibly, and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
