Responsible for the safe and efficient operational shift activities for Independence Station located in Oswego, NY. The facility is a nominal 1000 MW combined cycle, cogeneration facility whose major equipment includes: 4 General Electric Frame 7FA gas turbines, 2 General Electric steam turbines, 4 Vogt HRSGs with ammonia SCR and supplemental duct burner systems. This position will work 12 hr shifts.


Specific responsibilities and duties include:

o Performing the required activities of the control room and auxiliary operator watch station, as assigned which includes the operation and performance monitoring of all equipment, test and treatment of plant water chemistry, creation and maintenance of plant records, extensive use of personal computers and distributed control systems, qualifying and maintaining qualification, etc.

o Maintaining high professional, personnel and equipment safety and environmental consciousness and compliance standards and practices.

o Maximizing plant efficiency and profits without degrading personnel and equipment safety practices, environmental requirements or concerns or the long term operation of the plant.

o Ensuring all environmental permit conditions are constantly met.

o Perform other assigned independent, team, or shift tasks such as system expert, industrial safety program activities, routine maintenance tasks, housekeeping and general facility preservation, etc.

o Assist in developing and defining operational policies and procedures.

o Assist in identifying and implementing profit improvement projects.

o Assist in developing the annual budget and training plan for plant operations.

o Respond quickly to plant conditions or requirements which may involve extended and/or abnormal work hours.

o Will involve work with OSHA classified hazardous materials.


Minimum Requirements: At least 5 years experience in the Power industry or related field and be at least a High School graduate. Must have ability to qualify as an Auxiliary Operator then as an Control Room Operator; this includes the ability to distinguish between colors; ability to climb ladders and to be at heights of 80-100 feet; ability and dexterity to manipulate various size components from large valves to small electrical switches to computer keyboards; and ability to perform chemical sampling procedures; ability to "handle" quick changing situations under stress; ability to communicate orally and in writing with other station and off-site personnel and organizations; and ability to lift and handle heavy loads up to 60 lb for short distances such as oil and chemical containers, gas cylinders, etc..
