Reports to - VP Engineering

Job Summary

The ideal candidate for Lead Optical Developer will have significant experience in optics development for telecom applications. This role is ideal for someone with extremely strong optical fundamentals. He/she will be able to spearhead the optical architecture, development plan, milestones, and deliveries for modules at any technical level. He/she will have experience working with electronic, mechanical and software engineers to scope requirements. He/she will be able to work independently within a team, look for opportunities to make improvements, and be able to clearly communicate through written and verbal means.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Performing research to promote future generation products

• Own optical performance and specification in telecom modules

• Design new product optical module architectures

• Work with component suppliers to satisfy project requirements

• Develop subsystem, component and interface specifications

• Develop manufacturing and assembly processes to build product

• Troubleshoot optical issues and implement solutions in modules

• Track and implement production improvements for module yield



• MS degree required, Ph.D. a strong advantage

• Intimate knowledge of mode propagation both in waveguide and free-space applications

• Experience with optical system design tools such as Zemax

• Extensive experience designing optical systems (including fiber based systems, compact optical platforms, and spectrometer design)

• Experience with fiber optic components and test equipment

• Knowledge of telecom optical modules, specifications, and reliability requirements

• Knowledge of opto-mechanical design and methods

• Experience with testing automation and data

analysis tools

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to plan and prioritize activities, perform and monitor multiple overlapping tasks/operations to meet schedule
