Alcon is seeking Optical Engineer candidates with experience in optical components systems and/or microscope design for ophthalmic surgical applications. When these positions become available, they will be located in our new R&D location in Lake Forest, CA (Orange County).

Overall Summary: The Optical Engineer will specify, design, prototype, and test optical components systems for ophthalmic microscope and/or surgical applications. Document, design, development and validation process according to Alcon Quality System. Projects may include instrument consoles, disposable probes, and microscopes.

Minimum Qualifications:
• BS degree in Optical Engineering or Physics and 5 years of experience in Optics System Design
• Optical knowledge and experience:
• Lens design using software such as Zemax, Code V, and Light Tools
• Non-sequential optical design for microscope illumination
• Developing optical alignment and test methods
• Optical materials, adhesives, properties and processes
• Mounting for optical components: design and implementation
• Understanding of optical coatings and processes
• Good knowledge of human eye optics and anatomy

Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity with medical device development requirements and standards: FDA QSR, ISO 13485, IEC 60601
