Scope of Position

Optical Measurement Engineer responsible for:
  • Developing test methodologies and test systems
  • Applying state-of-the art experimental and theoretical skills to technical problems
  • Developing people and equipment capability in the field of fiber optics and optical metrology
  • Functioning as a key individual expert
Day to Day Responsibilities
  • Design, build and automate optical systems for active and passive fiber optics products
  • Develop and implement software for measurement systems
  • In collaboration with technology team, determine the performance of future FO products and develop an appropriate measurement method
  • Develop calibration test procedures and establish measurement uncertainty for test equipment/systems
  • Plan and execute product test programs
  • Develop tools for data analysis
  • Document test methodologies and test results
  • Develop and implement methodologies to optimize measurement performance
  • Review and approve test reports
  • Coach and certify lab technicians to test methods
Required Education (minimum required for consideration):
  • Graduate degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Physics with emphasis in fiber optics/optics
Required Years and Area of Experience: (minimum required for consideration):
  • Three years of experience in the optics or fiber optics industry
  • Experience in a laboratory environment is highly desirable
Required Skills (These are skills that candidates MUST possess):
  • Background in fiber optics, optics or optical engineering
  • Programming skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Written/verbal communication skills - intermediate and preferably advanced level of English language
Desired Skills (These are skills that would be nice for candidates to possess):
  • Optical metrology, preferably in fiber optics
  • Experience in Labview programming
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis
  • Familiarity with relevant industrial standards such as Telcordia, ISO and IEC
