Oracle Database Administrator

Based in either Atlanta, GA / New Haven, CT / Oakland, CA

Higher One’s Oracle Database Administrator will be responsible for design, implementing and support of Higher One’s database infrastructure and production environments in multiple data centers. This role is ideal for an independent, fast learning, and motivated individual who wishes to use their knowledge and mastery of database Administration. Provide technical thought leadership for the database environments and is accountable to help define, maintain, communicate and implement standards consistent with established architecture and strategy.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Interpret requirements (customer, internal customer, and existing infrastructure) providing engineering solutions and develop specifications to implement new projects.
  • Prepare time estimates for phases of technical projects. Develop and maintain project tasks for large and medium projects. Document all aspects of projects to assure other administrators can support the environment easily.
  • Provide technical leadership to other administrators.
  • Help define standard engineering designs, templates, processes, and procedures for implementing projects.
  • Interface with Project Managers to ensure requirements are gathered for projects and that project status is communicated.
  • Participate in design reviews and ensure that all solutions are aligned to policies and pre-defined architectural specifications.
  • Analyze system performance, modifying parameters to improve throughput and effectively utilize system resources. Providing recommendation to resolve future performance needs.
  • Participate in production support activities. Is expected to have the technical knowledge and capability to troubleshoot and handle all issues that may arise. Proactively put procedures in place to prevent and reduce the severity of outages.
  • Establishes and maintains strong collaborative relationships with internal and external strategic partners.
  • Coordinates activities with vendors as required.
  • Develop and maintain installation, configuration, maintenance procedures and documentation
  • Issue resolution and troubleshooting for the Oracle DB environments and applications.
  • Maintaining database security and standards to meet the company’s security policies and certifications.
  • Install Oracle database software.
  • Create database and required objects
  • Logical/physical database design
  • Provide database support including backup/recovery
  • Perform database upgrade including software patches
  • Migrate database from one platform/version to the other
  • Implement high availability
  • Manage various Oracle/Sqlserver and Mysql databases
  • Capacity planning
  • Work collaboratively with application developers to optimize database usage.
  • Provide support to software engineering team with development of stored procedures/triggers/functions.
  • Develop policies, procedures, and training plans for database system administration.
Working at Higher One

Technical Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent IT work experience.
  • At least 5yrs of in-depth administration/development experience with Oracle specifically in
    • Oracle 10G and 11G
    • Oracle ASM, Oracle RAC (preferred)
    • Recover Manager (RMAN)
    • Oracle Dataguard
    • Oracle Datapump
    • Oracle Enterprise Grid Control
    • AWR Reports
    • Oracle PL/SQL
    • Oracle SQL Loader
    • Oracle Streams or GoldenGate replication software
    • Oracle EBS
  • General knowledge of storage technologies such as SAN, DAS and NAS.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, MySql or Teradata preferred
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix/Windows operating systems
  • Shell programming
  • Experience with high availability and multi-site environments strongly preferred
  • Experience working in a 24x7 high transaction volume environment.
  • Experience implementing server security for PCI, SAS70 or equivalent certifications.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Limited travel will be required.
  • Off hours support required.
