Job Responsibilities

Under general direction from the Director of Computing Services, the incumbent provides administration and support of SDSRF Oracle databases in the production, testing and development environments. The primary function of the position is to administer the Foundation's Oracle databases and program in a business environment of finance and human resources using Oracle, Oracle Developer Suite, Oracle Reports, Oracle Discoverer, Java, HTML, Adobe Flex and other technical tools. Consult with department representatives and analysts to design, prototype, test, debug and deploy secure programs and reports to solve business problems. The incumbent must be an experienced developer with the ability to consult with end-users and design and program technical solutions for web and database based applications, interfaces, and related custom or packaged applications. Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity is expected.

Minimum Qualifications

REVISED Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS or equivalent combination of education and information systems work experience. Oracle DBA Certification or equivalent experience with an enterprise sized Oracle database server, version 10g or above; installing, configuring and maintaining Oracle internet application servers. Three to five years of IT development experience with PL/SQL, SQL, Oracle, Java, Perl, PHP, J2EE, or XMM experience. Experience with reporting and application tools: Oracle Developer Suite, (Forms 10g, Reports 10g), Oracle Discoverer, TOAD, and SQLDeveloper. Offer is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong programming and analytical skills. The ability to study business requirements, evaluate potential technical strategies and developing technical solutions. Ability to translate loosely defined business problems into sets of objectives, with concise and logical requirements. Proficiency in the following programming languages: Unix shell scripts, SQL plus, PL/SQL, HTML, Perl, Pro C, Cobol. Knowledge of operating systems, including Linux Knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle methodologies and OO development concepts. Strong understanding of the lifecycle of technical development from technical design, unit testing to user testing, to production migration. Emphasize adherence to standards and controls, and conduct quality assurance over programs before migration to production. Leadership skills, including the ability to coordinate diverse stakeholder groups and lead teams to accomplish goals. The ability to train and mentor other technical staff. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to adapt message to both technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to cultivate working relationships at all levels of the organization and with PI's, Project Staff and others in the University community that the Foundation supports. Highly motivated self-starter, with a high energy level and strong interpersonal skills. Well organized, ability to meet deadlines, detail oriented; possess good judgment and common sense.

Experience developing and supporting Oracle Application Express (APEX) applications Experience integrating enterprise applications and third-party systems. Experience in an educational or research business environment, working with finance and human resources applications. Some travel may be required, as well as the need to occasionally work hours beyond the typical business hours as needed.
