Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision, the primary responsibilities of the Oracle Developer are the support, development and modernization of SDSU Research Foundation's Oracle-based business applications, including Ellucian's Banner (finance, human resources), Nolijweb (document imaging and automated workflows), and InfoEd (proposal development). Consulting with department representatives and analysts to design, prototype, test, debug and deploy secure programs and reports to meet user needs. Integrate enterprise applications with complex third-party party applications, develop complex analytical reports, and architect and develop new robust and secure reporting and transactional web applications using Oracle development tools, including Application Express. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity is expected. Works with business units to develop technical solutions to business problems and as an expert, the incumbent is expected to be proactive and understand problems from a broad, interactive perspective and be able to develop solutions that combine information and ideas in new, unprecedented ways.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and work experience. 5+ years of IT development experience with PL/SQL, SQL, Oracle development tools, Java, Perl, PHP, J2EE, or XMM experience; or equivalent combination of education and work experience. 3+ years Java / object oriented web programming experience. Experience developing secure, transactional Java-based web applications in a production environment. Experience analyzing business processes, understanding business requirements, and documenting functional and technical specifications. Offer is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of Oracle database architecture, SQL, PL/SQL, and Linux/Unix shell scripting, VI. Thorough understanding of HTML, XML, XSL, web services, and SOA Proficiency in the following programming languages: Unix shell scripts, SQL plus, PL/SQL, HTML, Perl, Pro C, Cobol. Knowledge of operating systems, including HP-UX 11i and Linux. Knowledge of and ability to analyze complex business processes for risk and inefficiency and develop automated or web-based solutions. Ability to work collaboratively with other business units (internal and external) to identify and minimize risk while maximizing efficiency. Strong understanding of the lifecycle of technical development from technical design, unit testing to user testing, to production migration. Emphasize adherence to standards and controls, and conduct quality assurance over programs before migration to production. Knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle methodologies and OO development concepts. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to adapt message to both technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to cultivate working relationships at all levels of the organization and with PI's, Project Staff and others in the University community that the Foundation supports. Understand and follow posted work rules and procedures Ability to relate well and interact effectively with co-workers. Self motivated, ability to stay on task and work both independently and in team environment Well organized, ability to meet deadlines, detail oriented; possess good judgment and common sense. Highly motivated self-starter, with a high energy level and strong interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
