Requirements:
High school diploma required. Associates or Bachelors degree preferred.

Previous customer service background required.

Previous managed care and/or insurance background required

Previous hospital and/or physician office billing experience strongly preferred

IDX computer experience preferred.

Healthcare registration experience preferred? Excellent customer service orientation.

Understanding of medical insurance industry and billing issues.

Ability to register patients rapidly and accurately and use various billing information systems.

Excellent telecommunication skills and demonstrated organizational skills.

Must be able to communicate courteously and effectively with families, physicians, insurance companies, billing offices and staff.

Data entry skills and strict attention to details, especially numerical data.

Must demonstrate professionalism and a friendly manner with patients, families and other staff members.

Willingness to exercise judgment and independence to provide services necessary to meet patients and families needs, even it means going beyond the stated job responsibilities.

Ability to complete multiple tasks and work under pressure.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.

Mandatory Requirements:
All CHOP employees who work in a patient building or who provide patient care are required to receive an annual influenza vaccine unless they are granted a medical or religious exemption.

Job Description:
The Pre-Visit Outpatient Financial Counselor is responsible for the following pre-visit activities for outpatients being preregistered for visits/ancillaries at The Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia Main Campus, Seashore House and Specialty Care centers: insurance verification and identification of covered and non-covered services, explanations of benefits structures, necessary follow-up with families, education and information re: referral issues, authorization questions, pre-visit billing questions including contract participation, general financial counseling activities and superb, family-centered customer service.
