Over The Road (OTR) Dispatcher Manager

Summary: Works with Agents and Dispatch team to maximize vanning, revenue , and customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following, other duties may be assigned.
Coordinates with local dispatch to obatin maximum utilization of trucks for pick up and delivery of OTR horses as needed.
Work with Dispatch Team members in answering the phones to provide excellent customer service. Work within the dispatch weekend schedule. Help maintian order within the Dispatch office.
Communicate with drivers, dispatch, agents, and Payroll/Billing on pertinent trip details.
Consider operational performance, costs of operation, Safety and Compliance with DOT regulations, and company policy.
- Notify agents when trucks are in the area to maximize horses on the return trip.
- Communicate and share truck load information for Dispatch team member to confirm and print BOL.
- Communicate when allocating a requested "Mixed Truck" so that Dispatch team member can set the trip up with the customer in an appropriate amount of time.
- Communicate to the Dispatch team the need for an attendant so that when attendants call in , they can schedule attendants.
Manage, Communicate, and Coach drivers to maintain positive driver relations, and reduce driver turnover.
Coordinate the schedule to balance the trips with drivers for fair distribuition of trips/pay.
- Communicate trip detail to help driver(s) be well prepared for the trip(s).
- Call drivers when trip changes or comes up after normal call-in times.
Coordinate with Fleet Manager to have equipment serviced thus preventing operational delays and safety issues. If service issues develop, work with Fleet Manager to obtain and return Rental and Substitute trucks as quickly as possible. If, a breakdown occurs, must be in communication with driver and fleet manager until the problem is resolved.
Supervisory responsabilities: Manage OTR drivers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable DOT regulations. Manage dispatch team members. Carries out supervisory responsibilties in accordance with organization's policies.
Responsabilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and discipling employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Trips must be charted a week out to show availability and capacity.
In order to track deadhead miles and capacity, trips must be noted on the chart accordingly. For example, note "DH" when it is a true deadhead leg. Also, note actual stall space occupied on each trip.
Review weekly revenue with Controller to review week's evenue to prior year. This will be a key indicator on sales. Also, review driver expenses such as hotels, and look for ways to reduce costs.

Qualifications: In order to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the Knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Must have prior management and dispatching experience.
Education/Experience: Related experience in managmeent, customer service, and organizational skills.
Language Skills: Individual must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as Safety regulations, Company Policies and Procedures. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Must have the ability to speak effectively to customers and employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate time/distance for dispatching.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
Computer Skills: Basic Window environment to include Microsoft Office. Additional computer training may e required.
Certificates: Certified in Reasonable Suspicion Drug Testing and Urine Collection.
Work Environment: At times, the noise level in the environment is loud. Seasonally, the work environment is busy and hectic.
