Financial Counselors provide patients with assistance regarding eligibility for MassHealth and Uncompensated Care Pool applications, billing inquiries and estimates. Financial Counselors guide patients thru the Virtual Gateway and paper application process for available governmental programs. Counselors act as an advocate for patients who may require access to Infirmary sponsored discount programs, negotiates, collects, executes promissory notes and posts cash resulting from payments for self pay admissions or front end fees for surgeries. Financial Counselors provide assistance and back up for the "International Patient Billing Office". Completes reports ensuring accurate patient identification as delegated by supervisor, reports and communicates any inconsistencies found and propose resolution. Maintains accurate files and records for State Pool audits and related to all duties defined. Financial Counselors will also work NEHEN eligibility batch reports for self pay patients acting as a Registration Representative ensure accurate registration of insurance obtained via NEHEN.

High School grad or equivalent combination of education and experience; post High School course work in business, accounting or finance preferred; up to three years of relevant working experience in a patient accounts/collection environment with knowledge of third party insurance and regulations, as well as PC experience. Must be able to converse in writing and verbally in English in the performance of daily tasks, fluent bilingual language skills are a plus. Must be able to perform accurate data entry.
