UW Medicine Patient Financial Services is a shared services department, located in the UW Tower building. As part of the University of Washington, UW Medicine includes UW Medical Center (UWMC) and Harborview Medical Center (HMC). Patient Financial Services is responsible for the patient accounting functions for UWMC and HMC, including billing for inpatient and outpatient medicine services provided at the Medical Centers.

Our PATIENT FINANCIAL SERVICES department has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time PATIENT FINANCIAL SERVICES SPECIALIST 2.

This individual will prepare UB, HCFA, ADA and other utilized billing forms via paper or electronic means; prepare Accounts Receivable (A/R) transactions; access computer databases to obtain eligibility information; update patient demographic and financial information; communicate with Medical Centers' staff, patients and/or third party payors as required to obtain or verify billing information or payment, and answer questions/ resolve concerns; document specific actions taken on individual accounts in the EPIC HB system. This position is responsible for considering the status of the entire patient account and for exercising judgment to determine appropriate course of action for resolution of the patient account in its entirety.

Requirements:
High School graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in an appropriately related patient accounting function OR equivalent education/experience.

Desired:
Knowledge of UB, HCFA, ADA and other utilized billing forms Data Elements and payor requirements.

Ability to accurately prepare claims.

Ability to edit and submit claims electronically.

Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and public.

Ability to document work.

Ability to meet deadlines and departmental productivity standards.

Knowledge of EPIC HB Accounts Receivable (A/R) Transaction Codes and basic accounting principles.

Ability to accurately prepare A/R cash, adjustments and allowances.

Knowledge of EPIC HB system, internal filing systems, medical centers registration systems and third party databases.

Ability to retrieve data, remittance advices and other EPIC HB systems in-put.

Ability to verify eligibility and claims status information.

Ability to update EPIC HB and registration systems.

Knowledge of PFS and medical centers compliance and ethics policies and procedures.

Ability to adhere to and apply policies and procedures to work processes.

Ability to evaluate patient accounts for accurate reimbursement, refund, charity allowance or acceptable payment arrangements.

Knowledge of office machines and equipment.

Ability to use photocopier, fax, microfiche, personal computer and 10-key adding machine by touch.

Ability to provide excellent customer service to the medical centers customers.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.

Collection judgment/skills.
