Patient Care Technician/Unit Secretary - 3 South
The PCT/Unit Secretary, under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, Director and/or Clinical Manager is responsible for conducting and documenting initial and on-going observations, contributing to the patient plan of care through the use of Clinical Pathways, delivering patient care as delegated by and under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, to the patient and family, identifying and reporting variances from the patient's Clinical Pathway, and supporting the discharge plan. Additionally, the US/CNA functions in a secretarial role within the department. S/he answers the telephone, the patient call lights, visitor, patient, staff, and provider questions and requests. This is a key position as the first contact most people have with the department. This PCT/Unit Secretary processes orders, enters information in the computer, contacts providers, staff, patients, and families as directed by the RN. S/he follows accepted nursing practice and the policy/procedures at Flagstaff Medical Center. S/he assists and/or performs patient procedures that are within the scope of nursing practice of the Certified Nursing Assistant in addition to Unit Secretarial duties. S/he is expected to function competently in both roles and may be asked to change roles at any time during the shift. S/he seeks assistance and support when necessary, assists in data collection, organizes those aspects of patient care for which s/he is responsible, and maintains accountability for own practice. Within a specified work period, organizes and provides delegated care and/or functions that are consistent with overall admission to post-discharge plan and minute to minute functioning of the department. S/he practices within accepted ethical and legal parameters of nursing. This position may be caring for infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
-High school diploma or equivalent education/experience - required .
-Previous experience in direct patient care and/or secretarial experience - preferred.
-Current certification as Nursing Assistant within the State of Arizona (hard copy card) - required .
-BLS (American Heart Assoc.) required within 3 month introductory period.
