Working as part of a collaborative care team with the Residents, Attending physicians, and Nurses in the Acute Psychiatry Service (APS), the primary responsibility of the per diem Resource Specialist is to provide coverage during open shifts when the Clinical Care Coordinators are unable to work.
Primary responsibility is to facilitate referrals for psychiatric patients in psychiatric hospitals and inpatient substance abuse treatment centers for patients in need. This position mainly involves phone contact with facilities, and rarely direct patient contact.
The bed-finding process involves contacting the patient’s insurance to ascertain contracted facilities and to get prior approval and psychiatric hospital(s) (or other resources) for bed availability and to relay patient information and needs. In cases where placement is not necessary, the Resource Specialist finds and refers to appropriate community resources.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and ability to work efficiently under pressure.
Ability to work independently, but collaboratively a must.
Computer proficiency required.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, related field preferred. Experience in mental health field and knowledge of mental health and substance abuse treatment systems and insurance prior-approval preferred.
Working Environment
The Resource Specialist provides staff support in the APS which is located in the ED.
Hours: per diem (weekdays 8a – 4p, weeknights 4p – 12a, weekends 8a – 8p)
