The pharmacy clerk is responsible for gathering information from medical records and other sources as required to process medication refill requests. Screens and gathers information from patient medical records to evaluate the appropriateness of medication requests. Two years experience in retail pharmacy / medical environment preferred. AA degree or related work experience. Expected to be a self-starter in a new clinic environment. Ability to be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision, yet able to recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance. Ability to operate fax machine, photocopier and voice mail system. Ability to communicate clearly with patients and clinic personnel, both orally and in writing. Ability to keep accurate records and pay close attention to details. Ability to perform chart review and extract pertinent information in a timely manner. Capable of using/learning to use an electronic medical record (EMR). Demonstrable computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook. Ability to work with and communicate to a diverse work force in all levels of the organization. Strong communication and leadership skills required. Must have strong ability to serve as a patient advocate through a demonstrated skill in and understanding of all medical office operations, systems, and processes (front office, back office, and support departments). Able to exercise discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained and a professional, respectful clinic/department environment exists at all times. Knowledge: Familiar with electronic methods of communication, (e.g. e-mail, computer messaging, pagers). Knowledge of clinic and department policies and procedures. Familiar with Mercy Medical Group clinics, names and locations. Other Requirements: Must be able to adapt easily to change, and lead others through the change process. Must be able to work in a team environment that may change or fluctuate dependent on the activity or timeframe. Ability to promote and role model excellent customer service. Knowledge of e-prescribing capabilities and limitations, preferred. Strong communication skills required. Knowledge of generic and trade drug names and pharmacy terminology, required.
