PHARMACY TECH CERTIFIED
Location: Methodist Charlton Medical Center
Hours: 5:30p-1:30a; M-F; holidays included
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- The Pharmacy Technician will work with patients in the Emergency Department to obtain medication histories in order to provide a clear/accurate medication list that physicians will be using to perform medication reconciliation. Open-ended communication, good interpersonal skills, and knowledge of brands/generics as well as top 200 drugs is crucial.
- Assist in performing paraprofessional tasks that will ensure a high quality of pharmacy service.

High school Diploma or Equivalent required
Licenses and/or Certifications (Required and Preferred)
IV certification preferred
Related Work Experience and Other Skills
Basic computer keyboard skills preferred
Coordination of mental and manual dexterity for sustained periods of time are necessary components of the job
Effective organizational and interpersonal skills including written and verbal communication skills
Must be able to concentrate mental and visual attention closely to work
Work Experience: 1 year of Pharmacy experience required
Work Experience: Hospital Pharmacy experience preferred
Works with confidential patient information
Answers the telephone and front window. -
Compounds products in IV Lab using sterile, aseptic technique -
Gathers items needed for miscellaneous requisitions, orders, crash carts, etc. to be checked by pharmacist prior to dispensing. -
Maintains clean and orderly work area; restocks returned medications, restocks work area to appropriate levels. Assists in maintaining inventory levels of pharmaceuticals and supplies by notifying purchasing when items become low or increased usage of particular items in observed: utilized the “short list”. -
Maintains drug storage systems through restock and trouble-shooting functions -
Maintains Unit Inspections outside of the department -
Makes scheduled rounds to all nursing units for the delivery of medications and the pick-up of discontinued medications and orders as needed. Makes non-scheduled rounds to any nursing unit as required. -
Performs charges and credits for floorstock sheets, narcotic sheets, miscellaneous charge slips, and returned medications into computer system. -
Processes medications in assigned area (OR, IV lab, first fill) in preparation of final dispensing by the pharmacist. -
Trains new employees as assigned. -
