Works under the supervision of the pharmacist performing tasks relating to the filling, compounding, inventorying, ordering and distribution of pharmaceutical products. Other duties as assigned.
Makes hospital rounds delivering medications and picking up orders
Triages telephone calls, provides non-clinical information
Fills Pyxis stations, credits and charges medications when appropriate
Fills clinic and unit floor stock orders
Checks in wholesale orders, follows up on inventory issues, obtains medication per pharmacist request
Stocks shelves, checks for outdated items.
Keeps work area clean.
Inventories stock, sets up par levels based on usage.
Prepares wholesale drug orders and does the ordering
Reviews invoices, checks against print back, files paperwork in appropriate file
Enters information into the computer as required
Prepares compounded medications under pharmacist supervision
Prepares I.V. medications under pharmacist supervision.
Train technicians –in- training, pharmacy tech interns and students.
Checks outdates and quarantines any outdates drugs in dispensing stations and pharmacy stock
Keep up with departmental charges
File paperwork as needed
Performs quarterly unit inspections in any hospital area that stocks medications and radiographic contrast.
Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and three to six months related experience and/or training as a pharmacy technician
Licensure, Certification & Registration
Must hold a current registration as a Pharmacy Technician in the state of Texas.
Must complete IV certification within six months of hire.
Must hold current Texas Driver’s license and automobile liability insurance
