JOB SUMMARY: Functions as an integral member of the laboratory by performing venipunctures and clerical tasks as an aide to the laboratory staff. Demonstrates knowledge of test procedures, equipment and computer skills. Effective, professional, courteous, informative communication skills. Recognizes problems; follows safety guidelines; assists with training and information systems. Must demonstrate knowledge life span growth/development and interprets data to identify age-appropriate service and special needs. Ensures adherence to the Corporate Compliance Program. Performs other related duties as required .
Education: High school graduate required. Completion of phlebotomy training program with certification preferred
Experience: Must have 120 clinical hrs. with minimum of 100 successful venipunctures/25 successful skin punctures, lab orientation and didactic training including: anatomy/physiology of circulatory system, specimen collection/equipment, capillary/venipuncture techniques, blood clotting mechanism, specimen processing/handling, lab operations, isolation techniques, complications and medical lab ethics and.
License/Registration: Phlebotomy certification preferred. NC Drivers License with a minimum of 2 years driving experience.
Other: Must prioritize work to maintain maximum efficiency and standard of care; be effective and functional team player exhibiting loyalty and support for the laboratory. Professionalism, integrity, and effective interactions with customers is expected. Must adhere to hospital and departmental policy regarding confidentiality of patient information. Excellent driving record as validated by North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles report (and applicable reports from states lived in during the last 7 years). TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS Requires complete range of body motion including frequent bending from the waist, stooping, stretching, kneeling, squatting and prolonged periods of standing/walking with minimal sitting. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range; eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity; keyboard usage with monitor observation. May require moving/lifting patients and lifting objects up to 50 lbs.
