This position is responsible for performing skilled plumbing trade work and some generalist work in maintaining the building and equipment of the J. Wayne Reitz Union ( JWRU ). The JWRU building is a multi-purpose facility with over 350,000 gross square feet of public space, including two ballrooms, two auditoriums, 30 meeting rooms, a food court, game room, office spaces, and a hotel with 36 guest rooms. As the “community center” for the University of Florida, the JWRU provides programs, services and facilities to enhance the campus life experience for students and others in the University community.
Installation, maintenance and repair of pumps, air compressors, central heating and air conditioning equipment, air handling units, pneumatic control devices and systems, and other related equipment. Installation, repair, and replacement of circulator pumps including replacement of mechanical seals, couplings, bearings, impellers, and general pump overhauls.
Installation, maintenance and repair of food service equipment including but not limited to dishwashers, disposals, choppers, ovens, steam cookers, and conveyor belts. Installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing and plumbing fixtures. Soft soldering and silver soldering of copper pipe assemblies. Cutting, threading, and fitting of steel pipe.
Reads, interprets, and follows blueprints and schematics for heating and cooling system controls, both pneumatic and electronic, including thermostats, temperature sensors, flow switches, pressure switches, and control modules.
Operates drill presses, threading machines, grinding machines, electric and acetylene welding and brazing equipment, and large electric sewer machines (K-50 and or K-60). Climbs ladders, accesses plumbing chases and works in close and/or overhead spaces.
Performs a variety of other general maintenance work as assigned.
Forms part of crew responsible for demolition and space renovation. Installs piping, controls and ductwork for HVAC systems in renovated areas.
Work hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00 pm work on weekends rotating basis dependent upon number of employees in maintenance shop.

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in plumbing; or a high school diploma and four years of appropriate experience. Appropriate vocational/ technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
