Position Summary: Grandview, MO is a first tier suburb in the KCMO metropolitan area with a population of 25,000. GVPD is a cutting-edge department of 70 full time employees with 55 sworn officers performing the challenging work of law enforcement and community service. Opportunities at GVPD include: A Traffic Unit, Motorcycle Assignment, SWAT Team Member, Investigations, A Special Operations Unit, Assignments at the Jackson County Drug Task Force and the FBI Computer Forensic Crime Lab, School Resource Officers, and DARE Assignment. The Patrol Division operates on 12 hour shifts with three day weekends off, twice a month.
Equipment: Patrol Rifles, Tactical Shotguns, Glock Handguns, Tasers, Low Mileage Vehicles, In-Car MDT Laptops, WiFi In-Car Digital Video, Electronic Ticketing, Computerized Booking, and Live Scan Fingerprinting.
Salary & Benefits: All weapons, leather and uniforms are provided along with a uniform cleaning contract. In addition to an excellent benefits package (including health, dental, vision, life, 10 paid holidays, LAGERs Pension, and 457 Retirement) the City provides a competitive salary package with career incentives, including potential steps of 8% to PO II and 8% to Master PO with various assignment incentives. Starting salary for Missouri Class A POST certified candidates is $18.80 per hour, $39,104 annually. Starting salary for non-certified candidates is $17.90 per hour, $37,232 annually.
Qualifications: HS diploma or equivalent, Associates Degree or degree in criminal justice preferred.; valid driver’s license; minimum age 21; looking for someone with good character, independent judgment in emergencies, strong writing skills, an ability to work with a diverse public and no felony convictions. Acceptable non-certified candidates will be required to commit to a three year contract in exchange for sponsorship through the police academy training.
Physical Requirements: Binocular vision correctable to 20/30, able to recognize forced whisper at 5 feet with correction, ability to successfully complete job specific physical skills test.
Process: The selection process includes a background investigation, credit check, written test, interview, preliminary interview, oral board, interview with the Chief and polygraph exam. Post-offer exams includes psychological, drug screen and medical exam. The hiring process requires approximately six weeks to complete.
