The University of Florida Police Department invites applications for a vacant Senior Police Service Technician. The following is are the duties and responsibilities of the position; not all inclusive.
Shift supervisor for Police Service Technicians assigned to the Health Science Center Auxiliary. Supervise, train, advise and counsel all personnel assigned. Regulate subordinate’s activities and provide instruction regarding duties and responsibilities. Train new personnel in all facets of job including knowledge of regulations, procedures, techniques, courtesy and enforcement of all department policies. Conduct briefings as necessary prior to shift assignments (i.e. inspection of personnel; explain and discuss new/revised department orders, memos, directives; conduct training of routine and newly developed procedures). Ensure all calls for service are handled as quickly and professionally as possible. Review, evaluate and approve all shift subordinates’ work performance, evaluations, time records (sick, vacation, overtime, compensatory time), and work schedules. Receive and direct to supervisor any complaint registered from and/or against shift personnel, work schedule conflicts, grievances, personnel conflicts, or other issues as necessary. Has authority to take disciplinary actions or to effectively recommend such actions.
Patrol (vehicle or foot) assigned area of the Health Center facility to safeguard against trespassing, thefts, fire and other hazards. Patrol through, in and around buildings, report suspicious activity/person(s), clear assigned area of unauthorized persons; check with authorized personnel in area on a regular basis to ensure personal safety; provide escorts when requested; ensure assigned areas are properly secured and/or opened upon authorized request; windows are closed and lights off when facilities are not in use; monitor service drives for parking violations; assist law enforcement agencies, fire department and other emergency personnel.
Respond to non-emergency police incidents including, but not limited to: lost/found property, abandoned property, criminal mischief, increased patrol request, etc; assist motorist with disable vehicles, traffic direction, etc.
A high school diploma and two years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Some positions may require some proficiency in typing.
Working knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, polices and procedures; working knowledge of judicial proceedings; working knowledge of the principles of correct grammar usage; working knowledge of radio codes and procedures; ability and skill to effectively communicate via police radio, telephone, etc.; knowledge, ability and skill in operating motor vehicles and other police equipment; ability to work to work in stressful situations; ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; ability to supervise; ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral communications; ability to exercise independent judgment without supervision; ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; ability to investigate and obtain critical facts; ability to identify and describe facts and events accurately; ability to collect and evaluate data; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to deal with individuals and critical situations in an effective manner.

Rotate every four months with assigned shift personnel from day shift to evening shift to night shift. Overtime required- amount dependent upon the needs of the department. On-call status sometimes required.
Must be of good physical condition with the ability to remain standing for prolonged periods of walking and usage of stairs. Must also be able to work in both inside and outside environments.
