Job Description

The Investment Office of Partners Healthcare System, Inc. (PHS) oversees the investable assets of Partners HealthCare System, Inc., an integrated health care system, founded by Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. In addition to its two academic medical centers, the PHS organization includes community and specialty hospitals, a managed care organization, a physician network, community health centers, home health and long-term care services, and other health care entities. PHS is committed to patient care, research, teaching, and service to the community. It is one of the nation's leading biomedical research organizations and is a principal teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School. PHS is a non-profit organization.The Investment Office manages a large and diverse global portfolio of assets including equities, fixed income, hedge funds, private equity, and real assets.The Investment Office seeks a highly motivated senior professional to manage PHS’s marketable equities portfolios. The Portfolio Manager will be a key part of the senior investment team that manages PHS’s externally managed investment portfolio. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of external portfolio management, due diligence, success working in a team environment, communication ability, and a track record of success as a long-term institutional investor.The Portfolio Manager will work closely with the Investment Office’s senior leadership to execute the portfolios’ strategies, assess market and manager opportunity and risk, and have a demonstrated record of related work experience. The successful candidate will lead new manager diligence and monitor existing portfolio investments, managers, and markets. He/she will work within the team structure and provide input into investment processes including performance, IT, operations, and legal.Responsibilities:

Work closely with the CIO, Deputy CIO, and staff regarding current managers and potential managers

*
Independently research investment themes globally and across asset classes

*
Research and monitor industry trends, develop and maintain relationships with peers and service providers across the industry

*
Evaluate and monitor risk at the portfolio, asset class, manager, and holding levels

*
Conduct manager meetings with current and potential managers

*
Coordinate work of Senior Analysts and Analysts

*
Lead bottoms-up diligence, analysis, and ad hoc studies of existing and potential managers

*
Evaluate a wide variety of investment types - including general partnership stakes, direct investments and co-investments, and more typical fund investments

*
Lead negotiations for new investments, including complex structured transactions

*
Coordinate the tracking of manager communications for and highlight changes in teams, terms, and legal requests

*
Research, document, and present investment opportunities to management and investment committee

*
Actively monitor legacy investments, including making recommendations when to liquidate securities and evaluating hedging options

*
Contribute to project work as it relates to the team’s use of systems and data.

Operate as an integral member of the Investment Office Team at PHS

*
Develop investment skills and positively contribute to the investment success and excess return of the Investment Pools

*
Manage responsibilities pertaining to business continuity preparedness, documentation, DR, etc.

Qualifications

*
Ten plus years of relevant global investment experience

*
MBA, JD or relevant advanced degree, CFA designation, or progress towards CFA designation

*
Strong quantitative analysis skills

*
Advanced MS Excel and modeling skills

*
Interpersonal skills to independently interact with other groups within and outside PHS

*
Excellent organizational skills

*
Ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy and attention to detail, and to work under the pressure of time and markets

*
Unquestionable ethical standards

*
Ability and desire to travel internationally
