SPELMAN COLLEGE TENURE-TRACK POSITION ASSISTANT PROFESSOR PORTUGUESE
Spelman College seeks teachers/scholars dedicated to excellence in teaching and to the continued enhancement of the scholarly environment for students and colleagues. Founded in 1881, Spelman College is a private four-year liberal arts college located in Atlanta, GA. The oldest historically Black college for women in the United States, Spelman is a member of the Atlanta University Center Consortium and Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education. All tenure-track candidates are expected to have a demonstrated interest in liberal arts and sciences education, be able to contribute effectively to undergraduate teaching, assist in curriculum development, provide service to the department and College, as well as be active in scholarly, creative, and/or research productivity appropriate to a liberal arts environment. The Department of World Languages and Literature invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Portuguese, beginning August 2013. A Ph.D. or in-progress ABD in area is required. Native or near native fluency in Portuguese is strongly desired. Candidate should have demonstrated experience teaching Portuguese and Spanish and familiarity with Luso-Brazilian literature and culture. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to teaching and to program development, as well as experience and interest in summer study abroad programs. Review period will begin immediately, with strongest consideration given to materials received by November 30, 2012; continuing until the position is filled.
