•Set stops on machine bed and adjust components when making multiple or successive passes.
•Operate power press, power brake, apron brake, swaging machine, foot-powered press, hydraulic press, or arbor press according to specifications.
•Select and position flat, block, radius, or special purpose die sets into ram and bed of machine, using hoist, crane, measuring instruments and hand tools.
•Install, align, and secure gears, holding fixtures, dies to machine bed, using gauges, templates, feelers, shims, and hand tools.
•Measure material and verify dimensions and weight, using micrometer, template, straightedge, and scale.
•Inspect material for defects.
•Plan sequence of operations, applying knowledge of physical properties of metal.
•Preheat material, using heating furnace or hand torch.
•Lift, position, and secure material between dies of machine, using crane and below hook attachments.
•Lubricate material with oil.
•Grind out burrs and sharp edges, using portable grinder, speed lathe, and polishing jack.
•Hand form, cut, or finish material, using tools, such as table saw, hand sledge and anvil, flaring tool, and gauge.
•Mechanically inclined, production oriented, and safety and quality conscious.
•General knowledge of crane operation and ancillary lifting devices.
•Basic math skills required.
•Working knowledge of general computer programs strongly preferred.
•Previous experience with precision instruments preferred.
•Self motivated with ability to work under general supervision.
•Detail oriented with ability to inspect material for quality conformance through the use of measuring devices and drawings.
•Team oriented with effective communication skills.
•Fine motor and gross motor coordination.
•Functional literacy required.
