Support all team activities and leadership as required to ensure that job tasks are completed in the most efficient manner for maximum reimbursement and team effectiveness. Primary emphasis is to maintain maximum reimbursement collection goals established by management as acceptable targets. To achieve this goal, the individual must identify account problems, determine solutions, and implement appropriate actions to obtain reimbursement while working with the McKesson software system.
Completes all billing transactions and collection activity for entire home health service line. Informs Billing Lead/Manager of specific collection problems. With Billing Lead/Manager, decides what action is needed on delinquent accounts. Prepares statistical reports for various levels of management and the financial department of Carilion. Communicates effectively with staff, vendors, patients and any other members of the health care team. Examines outstanding insurance claims and/or explanations of benefits. Learns all aspects of the particular insurance payor. Gains an understanding of CPT and HCPCS coding and their appropriate use on the UB92 and the HCFA-1500 claim forms. Frequently interacts with other employees, insurance companies, patients and Billing Lead/ Manager. Maintains the highest level of confidentiality of all information. Requires limited supervision. Accomplishes multiple tasks in a timely manner. Individual will spend the largest volume of time sitting; however, this position may require lifting of boxes/supplies of 40-50 pounds. May be exposed to certain machine hazards when utilizing office equipment such as P.C.s, copiers and fax machines. Exposure to environmental irritants such as smoke, odors, dusts and molds possible. Strict documentation required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
High school diploma/GED. Degree in business or related field preferred.
One (1) year experience in business environment. One (1) year experience in claims processing or home health business office experience preferred.
OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrates ability to remain focused and pay attention to detail. Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills. Must have acceptable criminal record check. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs. Ability to make independent judgments and be self directed. Problem solving and Critical thinking skills. Excellent verbal and written communication. Must have the ability to work independentlyas well as with a team.
