Good communication skills.

Completion of state of Illinois basic security officer training as evidenced by having valid Illinois Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC).
IAHSS healthcare security officer certification preferred, but in any event is required after one year of employment.
Must be willing to work on short notice any shift, weekdays and weekends.
Public safety officer provides protection and safety for patients, staff, employees, and facilities of the hospital and hospital outreach centers.
Enforces hospital policies.
Performs all public safety post assignments, including Emergency Department and west public safety base office.
Monitors hospital entry and exit points, both directly as well as using video surveillance.
Inspects identification and packages.
Responds effectively to all service calls.
Writes public safety reports and conducts security and safety investigations.
Performs effective internal (walking) patrols and external (mobile) patrols of the hospital and grounds.
Sets appropriate priorities and deals effectively with stressful and hostile environments.
