The Packaging Director will be responsible for the management and control of production activities in relation to all aspects of finished products manufacturing; including safety, quality, blending, packaging, planning and shipping. This individual will also lead the efficient start up and sustainable operation of a Greenfield Packaging operation.


Is responsible for delivering efficient packaging operations that meet or exceed all regulatory, productivity, quality and customer service requirements.

Is responsible for the departmental budget preparation, execution and reporting for all operations areas (Packaging, Blending and Finished Goods)

Is responsible for developing and successfully executing a five year capital plan.

Coordinates the activities related to finished product warehousing and distribution.

Champions safety awareness and safety programs to mitigate employee and company risk.

Guarantees the implementation of programs aimed at the continuous improvement of company and plant standards in terms of safety, quality, cost, waste reduction and operational efficiencies.

Ensures the availability of materials to meet production plan.

Ensures the adherence of production processes to TTB, ISO, HACCP, GMP, 5S and good housekeeping regulations and standards.

Is responsible for the Quality and Safety of our products by conforming to all applicable rules, regulations and policies.

Collaborates with the maintenance department to support all maintenance programs, both those that are executed by the maintenance department and those that can be implemented directly by operators.

Collaborates with the planner to determine the correct rationalization of the production plan as it relates to long term planning, execution, materials planning, back up planning and emergency execution.

Verifies that the appropriate documentation is completed and maintained accurately as it relates to operational and quality control.

People Management:
Coordinates the work of a team consisting of line supervisors, planners and support staff.

Communicates clearly and effectively with all employees at all levels within the organization.

Leads, coaches, mentors and motivates the overall operations team including supervisors, planners and support staff.

Coordinates manpower needs with HR and the Plant Director.

Collaborates with HR in the development and execution of training programs for packaging related employees.

Builds and leads a strong team.

Works closely with the various teams and individuals from other business functions that support the operation.

Continous Improvement:
Drives the strategic planning of the packaging operation, which includes Capex proposals for investment to ensure the technological upgrading of the facility.

Verifies that the appropriate documentation is completed and maintained accurately as it relates to operational and quality control.

Develops and leads a culture of Continuous Improvement within the Packaging Department to drive towards World Class Manufacturing

Participates in the development and execution of departmental KPI’s to meet Plant Objectives

A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (Science, Engineering or Business) is required. A Master’s degree in Engineering or an MBA is preferred.

7-10 years of leadership experience in packaging operations in the food or beverage industry is required.

Packaging operations experience in a distilled spirits plant is a plus.

Effective leadership skills and coaching and communication skills are required.

Previous experience in a union manufacturing environment is required.

Previous experience with starting up a new facility is a plus.

Functional knowledge of packaging materials for consumer goods is required. Knowledge of packaging materials for use in Food and Beverage is a plus.

Ability to effectively lead and work in teams is required.

Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.

MS Office Suite proficiency is required.

Strong safety, quality and maintenance background as it applies to packaging operations is required.

Working knowledge of regulatory compliance (e.g., OSHA, TTB, HAACP) is required.

LEAN/Six-Sigma experience is preferred including ability to execute, teach and drive root-cause analysis and problem resolution.

Spanish and/or Italian language skills a plus.


Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
