Assure that products are of consistent and high quality by: evaluating new products for packaging and labeling manufacturing requirements, evaluating existing operations for improvement, procuring necessary tooling and equipment, coordinating maintenance activities, and amending process documents as required.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES: 1. Plan and execute activities concerned with the design and development of protective packaging containers and labeling for the medical device industry.2. Develop drawings, specifications, samples, and analysis of proposed packaging and labeling in order to determine cost and feasibility and present design for approval.3. Evaluate new products for tooling and equipment requirements and procure same, and complete the required documentation for new products.4. Develop and validate manufacturing procedures to implement packaging designs.5. Interact with Development groups and assist in the process development for new products.6. Evaluate existing assembly packaging and labeling operations for improved productivity, efficiency and reliability, and conduct process capability studies to determine process variability. Recommend and implement action if appropriate.7. Prepare or aid in the development of project schedules and coordinate activities for implementation of new equipment or new products.8. Prepare or aid in the development of engineering submittals containing drawings, diagrams, schematics, process routings, preventative maintenance plans and other technical literature for management approval.9. Design manual, semi-automated and automated tooling, fixturing and machinery.10. Assemble, test, and debug new and/or improved manufacturing fixtures, tooling, and equipment.11. Perform engineering tests to evaluate products, processes, and equipment.12. Prepare or aid in the development of investment and expense budgets.13. Create and perform Installation/Operational Qualifications.14. Support and troubleshoot automatic and semi-automatic tooling in production.15. Implement SPC where appropriate.16. Evaluate OEM equipment and make recommendations for selection.17. Interface with customers and vendors as required.18. Provide management with periodic reports.19. Complete other tasks as assigned by Manufacturing Engineering Manager or Sr. Director.
EDUCATION: Minimum of bachelor’s degree in engineering (BS in Packaging Engineering preferred).EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years in packaging design and machinery procurement: ISO 11607; experience in labeling, validation (ISO 9000 and FDA), medical device or related industry, a plusSUPERVISION: Expected to act independently with direction from the Manufacturing Engineering Manager or Sr. Director.WORKING CONDITIONS: Office work; will be required to spend time in production areas which includes class 100,000 clean rooms, machine shop, and Engineering labs.
