The Packaging Equipment Technician supports engineering activities related to thermoformed product handling, including but not limited to, testing production equipment, and assembling or disassembling prototype equipment. In addition, the Technician will be acquiring and fabricating machine parts, traveling to other plants to support installation of new and prototype equipment, and troubleshooting existing equipment.

Specific Duties:
Use proper safety procedures, such as Lock-Out/Tag-Out for specific equipment, in all tasks, know when and how to use these procedures, and promote the Engineering Safety Culture
Operate manual mills, lathes, sheet metal equipment, and hand tools to support the fabrication of components
Create assemblies or perform repairs using MIG welding with appropriate jigs and fixtures
Conduct process testing of production or prototype machinery
Operate a fork truck and shop crane as needed
Acquire parts or materials as required
Assemble and disassemble machinery to evaluate or implement machine design improvements
Work with other groups and departments
Provide email or phone support to production facilities
Travel to production facilities to lead and support new machine installations, troubleshooting, and training
Lead small scale customer support efforts for the group
Retrieve machine information from company databases
Maintain accurate records of machinery functions, test results, and equipment documentation
Learn basic TIG welding in support of fabrication activities
Act as a Project Leader for small scale projects or service requests; including the completion of progress reports and effort coordination
Participate in scheduled meetings or training sessions
Maintain floor stock and/or organize shelves
Prepare equipment for shipment
Maintain and organize work areas and equipment

Requirements and Qualifications:
Degreed Candidate: Associate’s Degree in a related, technical field and 3 years of mechanical or technical experience, 5 years preferred

Non-Degreed Candidate: High school diploma and 5 years of mechanical or technical experience, 8 years preferred
Requires 5 years of experience using hand and power tools, 8 years preferred

Requires strong verbal and written communication

Requires a working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and email

Requires the ability to read an engineering drawing and interpret basic GD&T

Requires the ability to obtain and maintain a fork truck license

Requires the ability to travel domestically and/or internationally up to 40% of the time

Requires a valid driver’s license and favorable motor vehicle report

Requires the ability to obtain and maintain a passport

Must provide own set of hand tools

Prefer working knowledge of algebra and geometry

Prefer 6 years of experience working with machine shop tools such as a drill press, grinder, mill and lathe

Prefer working knowledge of 3D CAD
