This position is located in the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review(ODAR) Writing Unit, 61 Forsyth St, SW, Atlanta, GA 30303.

TYPE OF POSITION: This position is being filled on a part time basis (20-30 hours per week), temporary Appointment NTE 1 year, may be extended.

PROMOTIONAL POTENTIAL: This is not a career ladder position; GS-12 is the full performance level.

DUTIES: Back to top Paralegal Specialist helps to further the agency's mission by providing a full range of technical support for Administrative Law Judges (ALJs) and other technical/professional positions in SSA's hearing offices, for example, formulating decisions on requests for hearings held under titles II, VIII, and XVI of the Social Security Act, as amended; participates fully and assists the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) in the formulation of case decision; formulates and drafts legally defensible decisions which are supported by the evidence, ensuring that decisions are consistent with the Act and with the agency's regulations, rulings and other agency policies. This support helps to expedite case processing for claims filed under the provisions of the Social Security Act.

All Selectee's are required to complete a 3 week technical training class.

For GS-12:

Serves as a program expert with full responsibility for formulating legally sufficient decisions, which address all medical and legal aspects of even the most difficult cases and as supported by the evidence.

Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for this position at this grade level.

NOTE: Part-time work is prorated in crediting experience (e.g., if you work 20 hours per week for a 12 month period, you will be credited with 6 months of experience).
