Testing required for this position: Written test (a study guide is available at www.mccanntesting.com); EMS specific physical agility test; skills testing consisting of National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians recognized skills; and an oral interview. Job Summary: Respond to all medical emergencies and perform all duties necessary to provide adequate medical care to patients in a pre-hospital setting and to assist volunteer medics in all aspects of pre-hospital care. Essential Functions: Regular and timely attendance at work. Perform basic and advanced life support procedures to the ill and critically injured. Perform vehicle inspection and minor maintenance to equipment. Communicate with the public, EMS customers, and City employees concerning EMS questions and problems. Assist with ordering medical supplies for the EMS by stocking and maintaining accurate records of supply room inventory. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational classes and refreshers through his municipal department. Display teamwork by assisting all employees in training and assisting clerical staff with minor tasks, as needed. Perform public relations duties for the Director as time allows. Performs work safely and in accordance with departmental safety procedures. Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work conditions or practice to supervisor. This employee is designated as "essential personnel" and is required to be available for immediate call-in due to any natural or manmade disaster, or any other event the EMS Chief/City Manager deem necessary. Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned. Education, Experience, and Licenses: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Minimum of two (2) years experience previous to application preferred. Current and valid Texas Department of Health certification as a Paramedic with Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Basic Trauma Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support or PALS certification preferred. Valid, Class "C" Texas Driver's License Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of emergency medical methods, practices, and procedures. Thorough knowledge of BLS and ALS procedures. Thorough knowledge of EMS protocols. Thorough knowledge of City geography Considerable knowledge of paramedicine practice Considerable knowledge of principles of supervision and public administration. Ability to plan, coordinate, and direct the work of others. Ability to plan, coordinate, and direct the activities of multiple EMS resources at complex incidents. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to deal courteously, but firmly, with the public on especially difficult and sensitive issues. Ability to analyze complex situations and to formulate and direct quick, effective, and reasonable course of action with regard to hazards and circumstances.
